What I wish I had known when I found out I was pregnant

Reading the word "pregnant" brought feelings of joy and anxiety at the same time.

I was excited about all the possibilities of the next 9 months, yet scared about this being my first pregnancy. I had no idea what to expect.

Looking back, here are a few things I wish I had known:

1. Every pregnancy is different

Whatever happened during the pregnancy of your mom, sister, friend, or random stranger on the internet is their own experience. Your pregnancy experience will be unique to you!

2. Your emotions are valid

Some people might feel shamed for their feelings of depression, anxiety, or fear about their pregnancy. It's okay to not feel emotions of joy and excitement for the entire 9 months. If you have any questions about how you're feeling, confide in a family member, friend, or your OBGYN.

3. There is time

As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I wanted to buy everything and prepare as much as possible. I quickly realized that 9 months is plenty of time to accomplish everything. I scheduled out tasks throughout the months to still feel productive, while giving myself time to research.

Wherever you are on your pregnancy journey, I hope you always feel loved and appreciated. Support the mothers, pregnant women, and women hoping to become pregnant around you.
