Top street foods you MUST TRY if you visit Bolivia

Bolivia is an incredible country! I spent over 18 months there and visited again a few years ago. One of the best parts about Bolivia is that many things are very inexpensive. This makes traveling to see different cities, buying local souvenirs, and trying new foods easy!

These favorite foods are coming from my time in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Each city (or departamentos as they call them) have their custom dishes. If you're visiting Santa Cruz, these foods are for you!

Empanadas de queso - pastry filled with cheese

Empanadas de queso are best eaten warm. The more powdered sugar on top, the better.

These are usually around 1 boliviano/empanada, which is about 15 cents.

Salteñas - soupy, meat filled pot pie

Salteñas are like a little handheld pot pie. They mainly have a soupy chicken mixture inside. Bite off one end first and sip some of the soup out to avoid a hot spill.

Hands down the best are from a little store called Hamacas. They are usually bigger and a little more expensive then the others you will find.

These range between 3-7 bolivianos, which is still less than 1 dollar.

Cuñapé - soft cheese bread

This warm cheesy bread is similar to what you will find in other countries as pan de queso. It's a soft, warm cheese bread.

Bolivia claims cuñapé as their own, so it is slightly different than what you would find in a neighboring country.

These are usually around the 1 boliviano range, or 15 cents.

If you have visited Bolivia, what street food was your favorite?
